What’s our objective? The Mystic Krewe of Apollo offers The Mystic Krewe of Apollo Scholarship for LBGTQ+ Youth in order to:
• Offer support for the next generation of LGBTQIA+ community activists, allies, influencers, and leaders as they reach to achieve their scholastic dreams; awarding academic and need-based scholarships once a year. • Give a platform for LGBTQIA+ high school and college students to share their voice and real-life experiences which can positively impact their own futures as well as other youth and the community at large.
Who’s eligible? • Must be a self-identified member of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally of the community. • Must be accepted, or currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution or training school focused on a particular vocation (i.e. Medical Training School, LMT training, cosmetology) in the state of Louisiana. • In good academic standing (no failing grades or academic probation/suspension over a span of two academic years). • Able to provide your most recent official transcript (college freshmen must submit their official high school transcript). • 2 letters of recommendation from mentors, advisors, faculty, or administrators. • Ability to attend scholarship award presentation at a date to be announced. • Must respond to the required essay question. • Applicants will be required to complete the attached application. Incomplete submissions will not be considered for a scholarship.
What are the terms? • Awards will be made payable to the institution selected by the candidate for the benefit of the candidate • The award must be applied within the academic year intended • All information submitted to The Mystic Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge will be strictly confidential and will not be shared outside of the Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors • A recipient will receive a $2000 academic scholarship for the 2023-2024 year (paid to the school for the Spring 2024 semester), and receive two tickets to the Mystic Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge Bal Masque XLI at the Raising Cane’s River Center, on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Recipients will be recognized at the beginning of the Bal Masque during the Presidential Address.
What are the details? • Application deadline for the 2023-2024 Academic year is October 15, 2023. • All high school Seniors and collegiate LGBTQIA+ youth are encouraged to apply • Academic-based and need-based scholarships will be awarded on overall merit • A completed scholarship application form must be submitted along with all required supporting documents (i.e. recommendation letters, transcripts, etc). These can be emailed together to email@example.com by the appropriate deadline. The Mystic Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge is not responsible for lost or misdirected emails. A confirmation email will be sent to inform that the application packet has been received. • All recipients will be notified via email/phone call by October 30, 2023. • Financial awards will be sent to the appropriate institution the week following the email/phone confirmation. • Official transcripts must be scanned in an email attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What’s the Selection Criteria? • Applicants must be in current good academic standing (preference given to consistent good academic standing for two consecutive years) • Two letters of reference showcasing participation and leadership in community activities • A completed application where essay responses clearly articulate the applicants answer
